The Keansburg School District has an established and active ESL program.  The ESL program’s goal is to improve the English Language Learner’s acquisition of English through academic content.  ELLs are initially identified by the Home Language Survey and screened with a DOE approved assessment to see if they qualify for ELL services.

If a student qualifies for services, they are placed in mainstream classrooms that receive services following the push-in model.  The ESL teacher follows a curriculum that is aligned with the CCCS standards and the WIDA standards to improve each student's English language skills in speaking, listening, reading and writing.

The following multiple measures are used to determine when an ELL student is ready to exit the ESL program: scores from the W-APT and ACCESS for ELLs, classroom performance, reading and writing ability in English, performance on standardized tests in English, and teaching staff recommendations.
